Doctor Who star David Tennant lands US TV roleDoctor Who star David Tennant is to play a gun-shy Chicago lawyer in a new US TV pilot, according to reports.

The 38-year-old Scottish actor is the latest in a long line of British stars, including The Wire’s Dominic West and House star Hugh Laurie, who have been signed up by Hollywood execs to play Americans.

Tennant is heading to the States star in Rex Is Not Your Lawyer. He will play Rex, a top lawyer, who becomes so crippled by panic attacks that he starts coaching his clients on how to represent themselves in court.

The show will air on NBC – the same US network that is home to Heroes and the US version of The Office.

Tennant has already finished filming his final scenes for Doctor Who, but will continue to appear on British screens in new episodes of the BBC sci-fi series throughout 2010.
