Doctor Who star David Tennant is to play a ghoulish killer in a new movie called Burke and Hare.

The 38-year-old will leave his role as the time lord at the end of the year when he is replaced by up-and-coming actor Matt Smith.

He will be playing notorious thug William Hare in the black comedy alongside Star Trek actor Simon Pegg.

An insider said: “It’s a big change for David. William Hare is completely evil.

“But it’s not all blood and gore. There will be moments of comedy.”

David was picked for the role by director John Landis, who was behind the flicks, The Blues Brothers and Animal House.
